From now until March 12 the PTA and Ms. Cottrell’s 3rd Grade class will be collecting and sorting new and gently used books donated to the school for the Book Exchange. The Book Exchange is a program where everyone wins and can feel good about helping our school as well as helping other LAUSD schools in need.
Each Carpenter student, regardless of whether or not they donate a book, will be able to choose a donated book, during their regularly scheduled library time, to keep for themselves. Our teachers will also be able to keep books for their own classroom. All other books will be donated to needy schools. Last year we were able to donate over 3,000 books to El Dorado Elementary. Please place our new and gently used books in the specially marked bins located at each entrance to the school ending on Friday, March 12Questions? Please contact Dana Romick dlromick@yahoo.com

The Carpenter Avenue PTA and Tree People are teaming up to add 12 beautiful trees to our campus. This will help shade & cool the play yard areas, eliminating some of the hot, black, asphalt and beautifying our campus and teaching kids the importance of trees. YEAH!!! Another great reason to support our school.
On Saturday, March 13th, we will be cutting asphalt, digging holes, and taping off planting areas.
On Friday, March 19th, 12 trees will be planted. 2nd graders will participate directly in the planting in conjunction with Mrs. Belateche’s science curriculum. We need volunteers to assist Mrs. Belateche, and help with the heavy lifting.
We also need donations of food and water for both days.
TREE CARE- Classrooms will be taking on the task of caring for our newly planted trees by following a regimented watering schedule. We need your help by donating any old wagons you might have. We also need empty and clean one gallon jugs. This will be our “awesome water brigade.” Please drop off in the garden.
Those interested in helping please contact Volunteer Coordinator Tina Raksin at:paulntna@pacbell.net.

eScrip is the true definition of a perfect fundraiser; small effort coupled with a high financial return…..
Parents for Carpenter is registered with several different “eScrip” programs. Each participating business contributes a percentage of your grocery loyalty cards, credit card, and debit/ATM card purchases to Parents for Carpenter and all you have to do is register.
Does your family eat at SUBWAY? Pick up a refillable Subway card, use it to make your purchases, and a portion of what you spend goes back to Carpenter! Find out more about SUBWAY and ALL of the “escrip” programs at http://www.parentsforcarpenter.com/2010-escrip.html
